On the afternoon of March, 16, Gan Xiaohua,member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice President of the ChineseSociety of Aeronautics and Astronautics, came to our school to give a speciallecture on science and technology for more than 400 students in Grade 2 of ourschool.

Graduated from Nanjing University ofAeronautics and Astronautics, Academician Gan Xiaohua has been engaged inresearches on aero-engines for more than 20 years. He has organized andparticipated in a number of important research projects, getting majorbreakthroughs in the field of core technology and key technology. He has wonthree second prizes at the National Science and Technology Progress Awards andfour first prizes atthe MilitaryScience and Technology Progress Awards. Academician Gan Xiaohua has obtainedfive invention patents and was named the “national outstanding professional andtechnical personnel”.

Academician Gan demonstrated the status ofChina's aerospace technology by using simple and plain language. To introducethe aviation technology, he showed the development ofthe fighter jets from the first-generation tothe fourth-generation and looked far ahead into the future of aviationtechnology. By showing the most advanced space technology and the achievements ofour country in this field, ranging from rockets to satellites, from Chang’elunar probes to Shenzhou space crafts, he led the students to explore the spaceand experience the development speed of aerospace technology.Students listening to the report not onlyenriched their knowledge of aviation and astronautics, but also learned thespirit of the academician's dedication to national defense and education.
